Sugar production

Sugar manufacturing refers to the production of refined sugar products from raw materials such as sugarcane and sugar beets, as well as the refining and processing of various refined sugars from raw sugar or granulated sugar.

These include: raw cane sugar, refined cane sugar such as white granulated sugar, caster sugar, brown sugar (red sugar), and yellow granulated sugar; refined beet sugar, including white granulated sugar and caster sugar; processed sugars, such as rock candy, rock sugar, sugar cubes, refined sugar syrup, and refined granulated sugar; as well as by-products of sugar production, such as orange juice.

Excluded: maltose, glucose, fructose, high-fructose syrup, and glucose syrup produced from starch are classified under “Manufacture of Starch and Starch Products”; confectionery manufacturing is classified under “Manufacture of Confectionery and Chocolate.”
