Aquaculture/Seawater
Aquaculture is a production activity in which aquatic organisms are bred, reared, and harvested under human control. It generally encompasses the entire process of raising aquatic products from fry or seed stock under artificial husbandry and management conditions.
The application of Sensor in aquaculture is mainly in the disinfection of the breeding environment.
In marine aquaculture systems, the high salinity of seawater eliminates the need for external feedstock when generating electrolyzed water, allowing direct use of seawater to produce such water. By designing an appropriate mixing ratio based on the effective ammonia concentration of the generated electrolyzed water, it is possible to disinfect the aquaculture water and partially oxidize and degrade ammonia. However, residual ammonia produced during electrolyzed-water utilization can persist for extended periods in recirculating water systems, potentially affecting biofilms in marine aquaculture systems; therefore, a process for removing residual ammonia must be implemented. The primary methods for residual-ammonia removal are activated-carbon adsorption and air sparging. Yet, seawater ions reduce the adsorption capacity and service life of activated carbon, making air sparging a more suitable approach for seawater applications. The application of electrolyzed water in seawater recirculating aquaculture systems is illustrated in Figure 1.

In aquaculture systems, pH and dissolved oxygen Sensors can be used to continuously monitor the pH and dissolved oxygen levels of water samples, providing effective assistance in maintaining a relatively stable farming environment and thereby improving farming outcomes.
